What factors have limited the market acceptance of MGO boards in Europe?

23rd October, 2025

Even with our current export volume of 500+ containers to Europe, the market used to be resistant to this product. Today, I'd like to share a part of the history regarding the European market's acceptance of magnesium oxide (MGO) boards. As we all know, MGO boards offer exceptional fire resistance, are mold and pest resistant, lightweight yet strong, environmentally friendly, and have a lower carbon footprint—aligning well with the EU Green Deal and sustainable development strategies.

So why was such a promising product once rejected by the European market? This is a historical issue. In the early days (especially around 2010), a large amount of low-quality magnesium chloride boards flooded the European market. These boards caused serious problems such as moisture absorption ("blooming"), corrosion of metal studs and screws, loss of strength, and deformation, leading to significant losses for builders and property owners and severely damaging the overall reputation of "MGO boards." To this day, many professionals still regard them with caution.

Our factory no longer produces magnesium chloride boards. Our products are high-quality magnesium oxide boards manufactured using magnesium sulfate technology , which contains no chloride ions , fundamentally resolving the issues of moisture absorption and corrosion.
